Beyond Words UI upgrades

Customer service personnel and power-users need a quick, keyboard-driven user interface that automates tasks and reduces keystrokes. A JavaScript-empowered front end on top of a robust, secure Ruby on Rails back end combine to drive this ecommerce system.

While other LiveSearch functions use AJAX, this system gathers all data on page load. Simplicity and speed during use were sought at the expense of page load time and technical wizardry.

Start typing names, companies or account IDs into this field to search.

As you type, the system shows users that closely match and offers a list of links to edit them.

Forget about capitalization, punctuation or completeness! Typing as few as four characters can reduce nearly 3,000 accounts to one match.

Select a user account with a mouse click or keyboard navigation.

Edit the user’s info in an organized, simple form.

Build an order for a customer with the same mechanism you used to find that customer.

Search for a product using its name or product code.

Just enough information is provided to make fast, accurate entries.

Navigate through the list of matches with the keyboard’s arrow; recommending related products is easy!

Select a product with keyboard or mouse input and automatically update its quantity — the fewer the keystrokes the better!

Add all you need and the order is ready to go. Improving a user interface requires an understanding of the end-users’ needs.
